Artist's Way

Artist’s Way Check-In: Feb. 18, 2012

I am Buffy and I am an artist that follows “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron, a creative recovery program, for the last 16 years. My Native American name is Wabun anung which means Morning Star. The Morning Star guides me in having hope especially in my creative recovery because it’s the light in the darkness that signals the coming of the new dawn.

I was able to write Morning Pages two days this past week. I can’t believe how fast the time went. I had intentions of writing much more. My sleep schedule is off these days. I am grateful I managed to write those couple of days though. They mean a lot to me. I want to strive next week towards consistency.

I have been doing daily Artist’s dates focusing primarily on computer puzzle games. I tremendously enjoy relaxing this way. I like challenging myself to go faster and farther. One puzzle game is about quickly finding hidden objects called Hidden Chronicles. It challenges my memory and reflexes. I have made a lot of progress in this one particular game. I am doing much better than I thought I was. Another puzzle game is matching colored gems together in groups of three or more called Bejeweled Blitz. Playing online games help me to shut the chatter of my mind off.

Synchronicity is that I woke up today bright and early without an alarm and immediately had all these ideas. I began today to post a couple new entries about my creative recovery through my Artist’s Way check in and my latest video of me playing my Native American flute song I call “I’m Home” in my Azurebreeze Creations blog. It would be nice if I could consistently post in my blog including adding videos. I have been very sporadic in my posts for the last three years. Perhaps I can finally use my blog to my creative recovery advantage. I had been thinking about it for some time about what to post in my blog.

An issue of recovery is making sure despite all the people I help in my various Artist’s Way Circles that I make sure to keep my own personal recovery foremost. I have learned to lead by example of my own recovery. When I do a group journey for 12 weeks I am walking right alongside with everybody else doing the journey using the tools, readings, and tasks as well. I don’t sit back while others are doing their recovery. I am right in there working on my own creative issues too.

I am still writing and making videos on YouTube atΒ . I joined a Native American women’s writing group that focuses on recovery. I submitted some of my autobiographical stories there and in another Native American group. I have also been playing my Native American flute. I performed playing my Native American flute at Alverno College. My latest video is me playing a Native American flute song I channeled. I also will be facilitating an Artist’s Way Circle using “Walking In This World” by Julia Cameron.

Warm regards,
